About the Wisconsin Driver’s Education Course

The topics for training and the lessons that will be included in the Wisconsin Driver’s Education course are:

  • How to operate a vehicle
  • Driving habits that are defensive and safe
  • The road rules and traffic laws of Wisconsin
  • Drug abuse and alcohol awareness
  • How to share the road with other drivers and vehicles

The in-car instructions along with the classroom sessions will ensure that you practice and learn the necessary skills required to become a better driver and pass the road test.

The Steps Teenagers Have to Take

After the DOT has approved your teaching parent (the parent has to send an application to become your teaching parent and have to receive a letter from the DOT confirming their acceptance), both you and your teaching parent can start the course.

The Procedures in the Course

Here are the procedures that need to be followed in the course:

  • First complete 6 hours of the online instructions
  • Make payments for the course
  • Complete the rest of the 24 hours of the online instructions
  • You will be required to complete at least 40 hours of in-car instructions along with your teaching parent, and this includes at least 4 hours of driving during the night.
  • After completing the course, you can print out the Wisconsin DOT Form (Application for Driver Education Certificate of Completion), which is offered to you when you complete the course.
